Three Great Links and a Snack Cake

This week, I ache for the nation, as I’m sure many of you do.  I am contemplating a future in which my beloved country is not only feckless, but Twinkie-less.  How have we come to this?  Yet another good reason to use “feck” in a sentence.

Ah, well.  In the past few days, I’ve seen three things in the press that I thought were worth passing along.  My loyal readers rarely click on these links, but I encourage you to.  These are time well spent:

  1. The incomparable Peggy Noonan on our fully emerged culture of self-aggrandizement.  If for no other reason, open it to see the side-by-side photographs of David Petraeus and Dwight Eisenhower.  Hint: it’s all about the fruit salad.  Read article here.
  2. The Chicago Tribune’s Steve Chapman on the perspective into which conservatives should put the election result.  Eloquent and right, from the right.  Read article here.
  3. An editorial from yesterday’s Tribune about concrete actions that would reduce partisanship and increase Congressional accountability and results.  If you read only one of these articles, read this one.  Then demand that these measures be enacted.  Read article here.

WAIT!  What’s this? Since I drafted this yesterday, Hostess has announced that it will sell off its brands.  And I just read that they are heading into mediation with the baker’s union!

Hope, it seems, has no expiration date.  Rather like the Twinkie.  Not feckless at all.
